E-Mail #41 Fangirls & Cross-stitch (Kayla #2 Takeover)

Hey it’s me again, Kayla. Kayla with a new face. Yes, a new face. 2 weeks ago, I had major jaw surgery which I waited a LONG time for. The first week was grim because my jaw was wired shut meaning I had to go on a liquid diet. Chocolate milkshake was my saviour but it’s all good now as I’m recovering quickly, and I’ve now moved onto mashed potato. My doctor signed me off for 6 weeks, so I have plenty of time on my hands!

Song crush

This is a new release by the band, The Menzingers. I’ve only recently got into this band and they have such a unique vibe. It’s a shame I started listening to them AFTER Slam Dunk festival where I chose not to check them out because I wanted cheesy chips! I’m also glad they went a little political especially with all that’s happening in America right now. America you are freaking me out.

Fangirls: Scenes From Modern Music Culture

If you’re a fan of music, BUY. THIS. BOOK. Hannah Ewens, a writer for VICE, explores female fan culture from Beatlemania to the Directioners of today. An extract from the book:

“I started messaging more of the teens who had posted some of these things under Pete Wentz’s photos. 'No I’d never sexualise Pete, that’s not fair,' writes one young girl bluntly. 'It’s kind of awkward to just randomly comment things the boys won’t ever read…?!' writes a different fan. Another girl tells me, 'I think that it is OK for people to comment on how attractive a "famous" person is, but there is a line with that kind of stuff that has been crossed many times'. I asked her what that line is. 'Just downright saying that they want to have sex with them. When I leave a comment it is usually just a quick "hey, I love you, you’re awesome".' On one particularly cute selfie of Pete, she had commented 'STRANGLE ME WITH YOUR PHONE CHARGER'."

Video Corner

I stumbled across this couple of review ALL OF THE TRAIN STATIONS IN THE UK. Talk about couple goals.

Things that I made

I hope this counts as it’s not yet finished! Any guesses to what it is?? During my jaw surgery recovery, I decided to teach myself to cross stitch and r/crossstich has been extremely helpful in my cross stitch journey. I’m finding it frustrating at times especially when I make mistakes but I also find it relaxing?? Weird.
