E-Mail #35 Panels & Pixar HQ

Hello reader,

Would you believe that it's midsummer, and the middle of 2019? I really can't believe it. I feel like I've accomplished nothing in this time, and it still feels like early spring because the weather has been so poor in the UK recently!

I think it's about time we crack on with the segments and hopefully give you some nice content to consume!

Video Corner

I have a long form and short form of VC this week!

First I present you the shorter!

It being pride month in June, a lot of wonderful people have come out the past few weeks like Daniel Howell, Jonathan Van Ness, and the subject of this video, Eugene Lee Lang (one of those funky Try Guys)

And Eugene has done a beautiful job with this music video-esque announcement. It's rather moving and professionally executed. The behind the scenes really capture the amount of work he put into it, and I'm so happy for him.

And now the longer...

As an avid Parks & Recreation fan (I re-watch this show every year and it's helped soothed some sores and bring some joy in the past) I ALWAYS jump on any cast interview or newly released info about the show, so this hour plus panel with the main cast is a bit of a dream come true. I watched this in chunks; the evening, before going to sleep and finishing with my breakfast the next morning, just to make it last longer. It's emotional and I kept feeling myself grin whilst watching it. It's a bit niche if you haven't seen the show, so this is a heavy suggestion for you to watch it!

Netflix Natter

Aggretsuko S2

Aggretsuko came back with a second season last week, so of course I binged it over two days and I'm left wanting more. If you have no idea what I'm on about, this is a Netflix animated series that follows a red panda; Retsuko, who works in a Japanese accounting department and lives a depressingly relatable existence where she tries to find a partner, respect in her workplace, good friends who can help guide her etc. Sometimes though, it gets a bit much so she releases her day-to-day fury through screamo karaoke...yeah it's amazing.

Each episode is only 15 minutes long and is super addictive, so watch all 2 seasons RIGHT NOW.

Tweet of The Week

This happened at Pixar HQ, cowards.

Song Crush

I was struggling to find a song for this segment this week, sometimes I don't find new music worthy enough to be chosen for SC, but I came across this track on my Spotify Discover Weekly (which occasionally pops out some gems) and I was really glad to see that it was by Franc Moody!

I discovered Moody during a lecture I had at uni where a guest lecturer showed their showreel of animation for the actual music video!

It's a unique, groovy sound that is really identifiably Moody to my ears. Give 'em both a listen!

Podcast Pitch

Shojo & Tell

I'm a bit of an anime/manga lover, not intensely but I have a soft spot for all the stories I consumed in my teen years (and the content I watch now!) AND I bloody love podcasts so of course a podcast about Shōjo manga/anime is going to appeal to me! Each episode is a discussion of a different manga, most of them are from the early 00's/late 90's which seemed to be peak manga time. It's more on the 'you gotta know before you listen' kind of podcast, and I like a specific podcast every now and then! I highly recommend if you want to hear discussions about a manga you've read in the past, or for reviews on one you want to read!

---

Aaaad that's it!

Again, so shocked that it's mid-year (and officially cancer season, my birthday is tomorrow!) and I hope to still be making this weird blog in another 6 months time!

See you on the flip side.
