E-Mail #32 Parody Rap & Stand-Up

Hello hello!

Back for another edition of E-Mail are you?

Glad to have you here! It's a weird one this week so enjoy!

Song Crush

SC this week is a little unorthodox as it's actually an accompanying album to the new Lonely Island "visual poem" project, The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience. Yeah that was a niche sentence. Basically TLI made this crazy parody rap Netflix special based on the Bash Brothers. More niche? Two famous Baseball players who were jacked on steroids. I don't know anything about baseball but I bloody love this. I oddly enjoy parody rap and everything that TLI have made in the past so this one just hit a weird good spot. It's a bit hard to listen to the songs with ZERO visual context (best to watch the Netflix special) but I do recommend 'Let's Bash', 'Oakland Nights' and 'Focused AF' as some one off songs that just SLAP.

Netflix Natter

The OA (Season 1)

Morgan who hosted here a few weeks back is my occasional TV series recommending friend. We have different tastes but sometimes they align nicely, and after nearly losing hope I decided to give this show a chance because I love Jason Isaacs and I was in the market for a new show to watch!

This show is WILDLY EMOTIONAL AND JUST DRAMA. I experienced a bit of whiplash as I finished watching The Bash Brothers on Netflix which is just weird ass comedy parody rap to this really intense drama series about medical studies, troubled children and kidnappings. This series is just pure good, and I'm sad I dismissed the recommendation for the time I did. Its TV that makes you think and reconsider ideas about loyalty, family, mortality and just a billion other thing. There's two seasons out so far so I'm going to take a break before watching season 2.

Video Corner

Not much new video content this week that I loved, so instead I'm recommending this old John Mulaney stand-up story about an accidental prostate exam! I love Mulaney, one of my favourite American comedians out there. He has a very recognisable voice and is so great at telling stories. Highly recommend checking out his other work if this story doesn't quite hit the mark!

That's it folks!

Thanks for sticking around and reading these weekly (or for the first time, if so hello!) it means a lot to know that someone is actually reading this self-indulgent blog I write for fun.

Have a good week!
