E-Mail #21 Umbrellas & Pancakes
Happy sweet 21st E-Mail readers!
Thank you for clicking on here today to see all the goodies in my hamper for you this week.
I've had a bit of an up and down week so focusing on the nice content in the world is a nice break!
Let's dig in.
I must have mentioned it in a previous E-Mail but I'm not really getting into new music at the moment, due to my constant podcast listening! But this song caught my...ear? And it's such a slow groovy song. It just makes my head slowly move from side to side. It's all good!
When it comes to consuming content, normally Morgan and I have very different tastes (bat our combined love for Brooklyn 99) and we both recommend the other things to watch often despite our differences. She really hit the mark this time! The Umbrella Academy is based on a comic book series where 43 women all over the world simultaneously give birth, despite not being pregnant. A bougie rich guy adopts 7 of them and trains them up to be battle ready. The series so far (I'm only half way through) covers a world altering event and the reunion of the children all grown up. I'm loving it so far and I keep sending Morgan long trails of thoughts. Thank you Morg for sharing one of your favourite things with me!
This video came up on my recommended, and I love Saturday Night Live and a bit of John Mulaney so I gave it a go. Good lord was this a funny sketch! Very reminiscent of older SNL content and is just such a clever skit about the Cha Cha Slide which I will never not watch. Being a cis white female, a lot of the inside jokes and references went over my head but it was so nice to go into the comment and see that the content was produced correctly! Long live SNL.
The first is an entry for a paper cutting competition run by the Paper Artist Collective of which I admire greatly. The rules were to create a letter from the alphabet in only 3 colours, so I picked making a Q from a blueberry pie, with the knife forming the tail of the Q! I loved coming up with this and I've had some lovely feedback which rounds the whole experience up.
The second is a project which I pulled together for the UK Pancake day (Shrove Tuesday) very quickly after a prompt from Millie. I decided to make a little stop motion animation of a pile of pancakes being made up. The quality isn't amazing but I had a blast making it! I would like to explore stop motion more in the future!
Alright folks that's it! Before I go, here is some house keeping for you!
I'm still banned on twitter so TOTW is still on hiatus.
Kaylah, my pal from uni, is going to takeover E-Mail next week!
Also a reminder that if you forget to check here every week, you can subscribe to E-Mail at the top of the page, so it's sent to your email when it's hot and fresh!
Thanks kids, bye!

Song Crush

Book Babble
A new segment that I thought about implementing a few weeks ago, and decided to slot in here because this new year I've gotten back into reading in a big way. I downloaded an e-book app that connects to your local library (Libby) and let's you read whatever! I used to be such a big reader when I was younger, but that dwindled when I discovered Tumblr and the internet. I aim to read 30 books this year and so far I've read 9 so I think I'll manage it.
Onto the book, well, series I'm reading currently
Yeah, it's manga. I got into manga in a BIG way as a teenager, thanks weeabo phase. My library stocked Fruits Basket, Beauty Pop, Yotsuba and I loved all the Soujo content. These lead me into anime and thus Ouran High School Host Club came into my life! I've watched the anime a BUNCH of times but I have never read the manga! I'm reading it now and really enjoying it. I'm a serial re-watcher/reader so it's refreshing to revisit a story but in a different context. To summarise OHSHC, a female character mistaken for a male one stumbles upon a host club and their school life changes forever then they accidentally knock over a $80k vase. To be very honest, it's problematic and from 2002. It's uncomfortable reading about stereotypes and attitudes towards cross-dressing and trans identity (please correct my phrasing!) but it's a pure story and one I remember fondly.

Things That I Made
I've been on a bit of a roll creatively this week! I've had a short but strong boost and it was so nice to work hard at something solidly.
