E-mail #4 Double Feature

Hi-diddly-ho neighbor-eeno!

I've had a pretty stonking good week! This gal has actually been doing things! Things involving travelling to different cities and coming to a comedy show! Which I'm going to talk about!

Let's kick off the first segment, Video Corner which coincides with my highlight of the week, seeing Chris Fleming's UK stand-up tour in London at the Soho Theatre! I spontaneously booked tickets to go to his first ever London show and I went on the first night on Monday! I met some new people and had a lovely evening in London with my old friend from Uni, Rhiannon.

Okay!

Video Corner

So, I'm coinciding a comedian with video corner because Chris is a youtube guy! You may recognise him from the viral 2015 video Company is Coming featuring his character Gayle. He is awkward, amusing, and twice as wholesome. Chris does a lot of crazy comedy, most of it is car rants which I am very enamoured with.

I have two offerings for you in this video corner. The first is one of my favourite videos from Chris, I'm Afraid To Talk To Men which really summarises Chris both as a human but also as a comedian and a singer.

The 2nd is a WHOLE stand-up show he put on Youtube this year titled Showpig. If you like stand-up or want something fun to listen to in the background, check this out! Topics include tech startups, nude spas and ghee butter!

Tweet of The Week

It's fucking freezing. And also...

Talk to me about that final!

Song Crush

2 songs this week!

The first is musical theatre....but hear me out....it's from a TV show! Crazy Ex Girlfriend! I'm watching the show as it airs on nootfloox and this song really caught my...ears? from the new season! It's about why being a lawyer is terrible! If you want to hear some 80's style rap, check out Don't Be A Lawyer. I also second that you watch CXG if you need something new to watch!

The second is a song from the self-titled debut jazz album by actor and singer Leslie Odom Jr (thanks wikipedia) and is kinda niche? Maybe? Leslie is well known for originating Aaron Burr in Hamilton (he's on the album) and has a very nice voice. This cropped up in my Spotify Discover Weekly which has been eh as of late but this song is lovely. It's smooth and piano-y with a nice voice, not very jazzy, just a nice song to listen to in the evening. Check out Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out) for a nice tune.

Reviews

So on my travels this past week, I've been consuming bubble tea 100x more than usual, as I can't really get it near where I live. Bubble tea if you don't know is a milk based tea drink with 'toppings'. It's a huge novelty in the UK and I love it. I had it a lot at university in Bournemouth as there were just...lots of bubble tea. So this review segment is charting my two cents on 4 different bubble tea places I've been to in the UK where I order the exact same thing to see who does it best.

Context: I always order a matcha tea with tapioca. I found this because someone who drinks this shit often recommended it as a go-to order, so now it's my go-to order. Let's do this worst to best!!!

4. Yobu
I feel bad ranking these, especially as this was my first bubble tea place in Bournemouth, but it's not amazing? You can't really customise that much, and it's a little too bitter for me. Cute location, full of children, but not my go-to.

3. Bubbleology
I went here yesterday for the first time, it's probably the biggest chain I've come across and it's all over London. I went to the Cardiff location and had the best customer service I've EVER experienced, but the tea was a bit mediocre and wasn't stirred that well? Too much ice too.

2. Biju
This is my go-to when I'm in Soho, London. This shop is frequented by an online creator I admire and I have one every time I'm there. The quality is varying, sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it's just okay. It's in a lovely location and the staff are pretty chill. Always room for improvement.

1. Tealith
The best, the one, the only. This is the 2nd bubble tea I came across when in Bournemouth. They have one other location in Bath and I went there specifically recently because fuck they make great tea! Tealith have customisable options, like sweetness and ice levels which is just under appreciated. The staff are lovely and the drinks are made quickly. Never had a bad one from Tealith. So if you're in the southwest, GO!

That's all the segments for this week! This has been a really fun week (I'm writing this after coming back from a fireworks show!) and I hope I continue to feel this content!

One last toot of my paper cutting horn (for now) as I completed slicetober! I'm going to put it up on my proper design website soon but for now it's all on Instagram

Have a good week lads, catch you on the flip side!
